Safety

About Us

Madera Unified School District's (MUSD) Safety and Security Department provides a safe community and learning environment for all. Since 1978, the district has ensured the safety of its students, staff, and faculty by implementing security measures that include Safety Officers at every school within MUSD.

In 2024, the department kicked off its Therapy Dog Program, introducing three certified therapy dogs. These therapy dogs and their trained handlers are on campus a couple of days a week as part of the district's positive behavior plan. This program aims to support students facing anxiety and stress while creating a calming environment.

Protocols, Schedules and Support

Support Us
To support our department during emergencies, we encourage families to familiarize their students with the terms below used in an emergency.
  • Shelter-in-Place: Measures are implemented to secure the building against unauthorized individuals and criminal activity.
  • Lockdown: Activated when there is a perceived danger inside the building. Doors and windows are closed and locked, blinds are drawn.
  • Evacuation: When students and staff are moved out of the building to a pre-designated safe location.
  • Reunification Site: This is an alternative location for releasing students to authorized individuals. Students must show proper government identification, such as a driver's license, state ID, etc
Emergency Response and Procedures
In a school emergency, please note that each MUSD school has an Emergency Response Plan developed with law enforcement.
We ask for your assistance by following our guidance:
  • Please do not call or go to the school
  • If your student contacts you, help them stay calm
  • We will notify parents and guardians about reuniting you with your child. Please note that the reunification site may be different from the school.
